The workshops at the Persian Carpet Studio undertake conservation work to Oriental and European rugs, carpets and tapestries.  We aim to preserve works of art by using reversible techniques that cause the absolute minimum of  intervention to the original.

The conservators conduct a continual programme of research and training to ensure that they are carrying out the most up to date ethically sound practices, whilst appreciating the criteria for the end use. Much of the conservation work consists of support and in-filling work to stabilise and prevent further damage occurring. This includes stabilising damage such as fraying edges, holes and general wear.

The work is undertaken in three well-equipped purpose built workshops that can house large carpets.  The workshops incorporate purpose made storage and lifting systems.

Full condition reports and estimates can be given.  These comprise specific recommendations for treatment of individual carpets, whilst sympathising with the restrictions of the environment in which pieces are housed. We will also advise on display and hanging methods.

Opening hours: Mon-Sat: 10am-5:30pm
